Check out the state-of-the-art surveillance camera located at Ryan Benson Memorial Skatepark. The username is 'public' and the password is 'public', and we recommend that you hold down the "Ctrl" button at the same time you click on the link. Although you will not be able to maneuver the camera, you can see what City officials and the Grant Police Department are always keeping an eye on. Residents and visitors who observe inappropriate activity are encouraged to contact the Grant Police Department with the day and exact time of any incident, so that the recordings can be reviewed. We are regularly monitoring park activity, but do appreciate your assistance.

Staff Spotlight
Congratulations to Grant Police Department Officer Mitch Rood for his heroic and lifesaving efforts during a recent White Cloud accident. Although Officer Rood was off duty at the time, he recognized assistance was needed, and he stopped to help Life EMS paramedics transport a critical patient to the hospital. The family of the individual have since expressed their thanks and appreciation, and the Grant City Commission recognized and gave Officer Rood a lifesaving award for his heroic efforts at a recent City Commission meeting.

City Watch Program
Although CityWatch is not a new program, it is new to many of us!  An excerpt from a Newaygo County Administration newsletter in 2008 explains it best.  "City-Watch System - An Alert and Notification System which gives emergency officials the capability to send emergency inforamtion to pre-designated call lists and the general public quickly, accurately, and automatically via phone, text messaging, fax, pager, and email.  The new system has additional capabilities which the old system, purchased in 2000, did not.  The new system is connected to 12 other CityWatch Systems in surrounding counties, which increases calling capacity during emergency situations.  Currently, the public notification list is programmed utilizing 9-1-1 database information provided by the phone companies, which does not include cell phones or unlisted numbers, but soon residents will be able to register via a website or CityWatch Registry postcard, to ensure that officials have accurate contact information to notify you during an emergency."

While CityWatch is not affiliated with the City of Grant, a number of our residents have received numerous calls with specific alert messages and have subsequently contacted their local officials to find out more information.  Because of these calls and questions, we wanted to share information with you about this program and what it is intended to accomplish.  After receiving a pre-recorded CityWatch message, please direct any questions to the number provided at the end of the call, and do not call the Newaygo County Central Dispatch!  It is important to point out that at this time, residents are not yet able to register to be included on the CityWatch list.  The intention is to be able to do this at some point in time, just not currently.

The entire original Newaygo County Administration newsletter referencing CityWatch is provided in the link above.
