This event always takes place the first Saturday after Labor Day weekend, making it Saturday, September 7, 2013. This event is not sponsored by the City of Grant or even the Chamber of Commerce. It just occurs every year on its own. If you are interested in setting up tables for a yard sale within the City limits, you should contact the property owner for permission well in advance. Please be advised the any any activity along M-37 is regulated the Muskegon Transportation Service Center (TSC) of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). The number to contact the Muskegon TSC is (231) 777-3451. The City of Grant is not allowing sales on any City owned property.
Grant Festival 2013 took place on Friday, August 16th through Saturday, August 17th. The location was the same as last year: 360 S Maple (M-37) next to Rent Smart and Never Enough Auto. The Chamber of Commerce hired Kasey Jernberg as the Grant Festival Coordinator. All event entry forms and flyers are made available on the Chamber of Commerce website.
The Grant Festival is a Chamber of Commerce event. While the City of Grant is a paying member of the Chamber of Commerce, the City does not host or run the Grant Festival. This is a common misconception. Our membership representative as well as many City employees volunteer time and efforts to help out with Chamber of Commerce events, the same as many other business representatives do. They are not paid to volunteer or help out with this or any other community event.

Business Holiday Decorating Contest
As a fun and festive fundraising event to help purchase holiday themed banners for the new L.E.D. streetlights in the downtown, the Chamber of Commerce is once again sponsoring a Holiday Decorating Contest among its members. Essentially, guests were encouraged to vote for their favorite decorated member business by casting their "vote" with spare change. The funds raised will be combined with the $322 raised in 2011 to purchase new decorations for the newer L.E.D. streetlight poles in downtown Grant.

2012 Grant Area Yard Sales While there is no longer any official group that promotes or hosts this event, it just seems to run itself. For decades now, the Grant Area Yard Sales have always been held on the first Saturday after Labor Day Weekend. This means they were be held on Saturday, September 8th this year. The City of Grant does not regulate yard sales, but please be aware that Michigan Department of Transportation requires sidewalk cafe permits for any event that causes traffic to slow down frequently or make stops along their right-of-way. Please contact MDOT for more information. Often yard sales are found along the railroad right-of-way. CSX Transportation owns the railroad right-of-way property throughout the City limits, and any permission to utilize their property needs to be obtained from the railroad.
2012 Grant Festival The Chamber of Commerce was busy in 2012. The Chamber Board hired Kasey Jernberg to be the Grant Festival Coordinator for 2012. Kasey coordinated all of the events, entry forms, website maintenance, and basically all Festival details. The Grant Festival was held on Friday, August 17th and Saturday, August 18th, 2012 at a new location of 360 S. Maple (M-37), just half a block south of City Hall. The Chamber Board recognized how quickly the Festival has grown, and this idea had been discussed for several years to free up some time for the Chamber's biggest volunteers to enjoy Festival a little more themselves. The fresh new website is online, and we encourage you to check it out to learn more about the new venue for Grant Festival 2012 and other Chamber of Commerce business.
Location: Blanche Lake Park (Park Dr. off of E. State St./across from Elementary School)
Times: 10:00am - 2:00pm

Grant Community Christmas Party & Santa Express 2011 Santa Claus and his helper Elves visited Grant on Saturday, December 10, 2011. They arrived on the Marquette Rail Santa Express, greeted children and posed for a few pictures, then Santa was escorted to the Grant Community Center to meet all of the children. We estimate that over 400 visitors came out to see Santa at the Community Center, and many more were waiting as he arrived aboard the Santa Express. The Chamber of Commerce provided a free picture with Santa for each child, and this year they were printed on-site and available for pick-up after a 10-15 minute wait. For more information about the Annual Grant Community Christmas Party or other Chamber of Commerce events, visit the Chamber website.
City-Wide Yard Sales The date for the annual city-wide yard sales was Saturday, September 10, 2011. When planning for a yard sale, please just use common sense. First, make sure you check with the property owner before setting up for a sale on property that you do not own. Ordinances Do Not Allow Signs in the road right-of-way or on light poles. Please keep any signs on the inside of the sidewalk, and only with written permission of the property owner. Be sure not to leave anything behind after a sale to avoid a costly ordinance violation.
